Pokemon (or more properly Pokémon) is short for Pocket Monster and was created in Japan in 1996. It is a role-playing game involving cards. The cards have pictures of different Pokemon monsters on them, each with special powers.
The idea of the game is to have the children collect as many Pokemon as possible and train them, then use them against each others Pokemon.
