After School Sports Participation

In today’s fast paced world we forget that our kids have a life of their own. Playing in sports is one of the many opportunities available for our children to grow and mature while having fun too.

Many schools now have after school sports activities just for the fun of it. Allowing your child to participate in one of these activities can be both a learning experience and very rewarding.

Start by checking with your school system to see what types of sports are available. Many schools have soccer, tennis, softball, track, volleyball, basketball and many other sports that children can be a part of.

Be sure your child has any equipment they may need to play the sport. Help them to understand the rules of the sport plus the rules of sportsmanship. Knowing the rules ahead of time will help your child feel more comfortable in playing the game.

Support your child in whatever sport they choose. Remember this is for them and they should be allowed to follow their own wishes. Also support them through the time they are playing the sport. Sometimes it can be difficult to continue to pursue something if you’re just not sure. By supporting your child through the good and bad times you will encourage them to finish what they have started.

By allowing your child to play in after school sports you are allowing them to learn, be safe and to be proud of their accomplishments.
