After the Feast WalkEverybody knows that the traditional thing to do after a great Thanksgiving meal is to take a nap. Of course the kids don’t sleep so they are up running around and bored out of their minds. Moms don’t sleep because they are only thinking about the cleanup and what to leave out for the snack everybody will want once they wake up from their nap.
Why not start a new family tradition this year and take an after the feast walk? Not only is it good for you because you’re working off some of those calories and building muscle, but it’s also a time that your family can spend together without all the fuss of the busy day. Once your dinner is complete don’t worry about the mess. It will still be there when you get back that’s a promise. Gather all the family together and head out the door. Let the kids decide exactly where your walk will take you. Just remind them that you have to get there and get back. This saves you from a walk that is too long for anyone. Once they have decided where the walk will take you, think about what you might see while you’re out and about. Have the kids look for Thanksgiving decorations that are different or unusual. Look at all the different colored leaves and see if any of you can tell what kind of tree they are from. Watch for different animals that you may come across. Fall is a great time to see squirrels, chipmunks and even caterpillars. Try looking for different kinds of birds too. Play “Name that bird” with the kids and see how many different types of birds everyone can spot. Whatever you decide to do on your walk just remember it’s a time when your family can be together. Talk, laugh, just enjoy each other’s company and remember to be thankful for all that you see and do with each other. That’s what Thanksgiving is really all about. |
