All About Me Shirt

I don't know a child who doesn't love to personalize their belongings. Making a one-of-a-kind shirt is one of the best ways to let your child show off their talent and their interests. Encourage your child to create a masterpiece with symbols of their favorite things and tell their unique story right on their own shirt!

What You’ll Need

Any plain white or light color old shirts in a cotton or cotton-blend fabric (or even one of Mom or Dad's old shirts)
old newspapers or paper bags
cardboard or cereal box
fabric paint and paintbrushes for fabric paint
foam shapes (purchase or cut shapes that tell something about yourself)
fabric markers
any embellishments that help you tell your story

Instructions

1. Lay the shirt on old newspapers to protect the work surface. Place a cardboard or flattened cereal box underneath the front of the shirt for support for writing and stamping. (If using a new shirt, prewash.)

2. To stamp on the shirt: apply fabric paint to one surface of the foam shape. Press the foam onto the shirt. Let dry completely.

3. Add words or other designs using fabric markers to tell your story and illustrate your interests.

Note: It isn't necessary to use a new shirt for this activity. In fact, this is a great way to give new life to an old shirt that the child may have grown tired of, or that Mom or Dad have hanging in their closet that they no longer want.
