Backyard Carnival

Do you remember the thrill you felt as a child when you went to the carnival? Remember the lights, music, games, rides and that great food. In today’s world of amusement parks, carnivals seem like a thing of past. Why not build a backyard carnival for your child to enjoy? Here are some tips to help you.

What You’ll Need

Start by sectioning off your backyard. Set up one area for rides, one area for games and one area for food. Place different color Christmas lights around your backyard. Be sure some of them are blinking lights. Also place a radio and a couple of speakers in the yard for that great carnival music.

You can make the rides out of your swing set. Use the swings, slide and even the teeter totter. You can also use your riding lawnmower and an attachable cart to take the kids on rides around the backyard.

Now it’s time to set up the carnival games. You can play toss the ring over the bottle or place bowls in a small swimming pool and let the kids toss balls into them. There’s always the fun game of pop the water balloon or shoot the duck with a water gun. Be sure to have prizes to give away to the winners.

Don’t forget that great food. You can put cotton candy in small bags and make those wonderful elephant ears or funnel cakes. Be sure to have corn dogs and corn on the cob too. Make those slushies that everyone loves by using Kool-Aid and crushed ice.
