Batty Little Pumpkins

When the older children are getting ready for Halloween, carving their pumpkins with all sorts of eerie faces and fancy designs, the younger children can have their own fiendish creations to scare the Trick-or-Treaters. These spooky little pumpkins and gourds are perfect for tiny hands; and young children seem to really be tickled with anything miniature. What a delightful sight to have their tiny creations mixed in with the full size jack-o'-lanterns.

What You’ll Need

tiny pumpkins and gourds
black acrylic craft paint
white acrylic craft paint
paint brush
pencil
optional: bat shape template

Instructions

1. Wipe pumpkins and gourds with damp cloth and dry thoroughly.
2. Paint pumpkins either white or black. You may also wish to leave some natural.
3. Draw bat shapes, either using template or free hand, all around pumpkins and gourds.
4. Paint the bat shapes with the alternate color, black on white pumpkins or white on black pumpkins.
5. Place Batty pumpkins and gourds in an arrangement on a table in a group or scattered around the house.
6. OPTIONAL: Of course, you'll want your youngster to explore their creativity. Try drawing ghost faces (black eyes and mouth on white painted pumpkins), or haunted houses, or spiders, or jack-o'-lantern faces, or anything they want, to celebrate and join in the fun of Halloween.
