> Halloween Activities Beautiful Butterfly CostumeYour little "Butterfly" will love fluttering around the neighborhood on Halloween in this beautiful costume. When the gossamer wings flow in the breeze and sparkle in the light, your child will feel special indeed! What You’ll NeedSheer fabricOld black turtleneck or t-shirt and pants fabric glue or pins (sewing is optional) fabric paint (various colors) pipe cleaners cotton balls face paint (optional) InstructionsDepending on how detailed you want to make your butterfly, you may want to pick out a picture and duplicate the butterfly's pattern using fabric paint. Your child may have a particular color scheme in mind, or your child may be happy just to have fluttery wings of any color.Purchase sheer fabric in the color your child has chosen. Cut the fabric to fit from the middle of the back to along the arms when arms are extended up. You may want to paint spots on the fabric to look like butterfly wings. Sew, glue, or pin each piece of fabric down the back of the shirt and take the other ends and sew, glue, or pin each piece to the sleeve of the turtleneck or shirt. When your child lifts their arms, the wings will flutter around. Use pipe cleaners to make the antennae by taking several pipe cleaners and forming them into a circle under the chin and around the top of the head. Twist two pipe cleaners to the top of the "headband", stick cotton balls at the tip of each of the pipe cleaners. You can color the cotton balls with whatever color you'd like. Use face paint, if desired, in shades to compliment your butterfly's wing colors. |
