> President's Day Activities Build a Log CabinA fun activity for children to do on President’s Day is to build a log cabin. It’s pretty easy to do with a little guidance from you. It also give you a chance to gather your children together while you talk to them about the significance of President's day and why it is so important to our heritage. What You’ll Need* Small box* Scissors * Glue * Popsicle sticks * Pencil * Brown, red and black markers * Plastic wrap * Tape InstructionsStart with the small box. In the front of the box draw a rectangle for the door.Cut the bottom, one side and the top of the box so the door can be opened and closed. Cut out a couple of squares on the box for the windows. Cut pieces of the plastic wrap to tape on the inside of the box to look like window glass. Remove the smaller flaps of the box with scissors. Bring the larger flaps together at an angle to make the roof. Glue or tape the flaps together. Color the Popsicle sticks with a dark brown marker. Glue the sticks to the side of the box. Color more Popsicle sticks with the black marker and glue them to the roof of the house. Now make your chimney. Use a smaller box and cut it to fit over the roof on the cabin. Be sure to leave a little bit of a flap so the chimney can be attached to the house with glue. Cover the chimney with Popsicle sticks that have been colored with the red marker. |
