> Halloween Activities Making a Butterfly CostumeAll little girls love butterflies. They are not only pretty but also free flying wonders in your little girl’s eyes. Why not dress her up as a butterfly for Halloween. It’s very easy to do and your little girl will shine on Halloween night. What You’ll Need* Dark turtleneck* Dark leotards * Bright colored fabric * Needle and thread * Scissors * Dark colored head band * Pipe Cleaners * Cotton balls * Glow-in-the-dark paint * Eyeliner * Glue Begin by finding colorful pictures of butterflies for your daughter to look at. This will give her a chance to see the differences in them and help her to pick out her favorite. This will also help you in picking out material and colors for the costume.
The body of a butterfly is usually dark. Start your child’s costume with a dark colored turtleneck and leotards. Next buy fabric in the colors that match the butterfly your child has decided on. Be sure the colors are bright and vibrant. Also be sure your fabric is durable. If it is too lightweight it can tear easily as your child gets in and out of the car or when in a crowd of people trying to move around. After purchasing your fabric, cut it into 2 pieces. One end of each piece needs to be sewn down the middle of the back of each leotard leg. Then take the other end of the fabric and sew down the inside of each arm on the turtleneck. Whey your child has the costume on and they lift their arms they have butterfly wings. To make their antennae use a fabric head band in a dark color. Take 2 pipe cleaners and attach to the back and inside of the headband with glue. Take 2 cotton balls and color them with yellow, orange or green glow in the dark paint. Attach the cotton balls to the top of the pipe cleaners. Place the headband around your child’s head being sure it fits well enough not to slip over their eyes. By using colored eyeliner you can decorate your child’s face with butterfly dots. Be careful not to get to close to their eyes. Children have a tendency to do a lot of running while out trick or treating and you don’t want the eyeliner to run and get in their eyes. With very little time and effort you have transformed your little girl into a beautiful butterfly. She will love it and be the hit of the night. |
