> Back to School Activities Cardboard School BusThe School Bus is always a fascination for pre-school children and younger school age children, as well. It also can be a bit disconcerting on the first day of school when that big bus drives up. This craft is not only fun but it could open a dialog with your children about their feelings about getting on that big bus the first time. What You’ll Needempty milk cartonscissors egg carton tape 4 paper cups paper fasteners paints paintbrushes markers Optional: small toy people or packing peanuts Instructions1. Wash the milk carton and let dry thoroughly. Cut along two long sides and the top of the milk carton. This will form a flap that you can open and close. Turn the milk carton on its side with the flap on top. Cut out windows along the sides and spout of the milk carton.2. Cut the egg carton to fit into the milk carton. The egg cups will become the passenger seats. Place the egg carton into the bus by opening the flap. 3. Paint the bus yellow and black. Use markers to add features such as head lights and other marks. Let dry completely between decorations so nothing runs together. 4. Meanwhile, make the wheels. Cut off the bottom 1/2 inch of the paper cups. Push a paper fastener through the center bottom of each cup to form a wheel. Poke holes into the bus and attach the wheels. 5. Use small toy people or packing peanuts as passengers. If you are going to use packing peanuts, use a pen to draw faces and hair on them. Using different sizes of empty milk cartons (or other cartons) you can make various cars and trucks. Try using different cups for wheels as well. |
