> Earth Day Activities Celebrate Earth Day with a Trip to the Botanical GardensA trip to the Botanical Garden can be fun no matter what time of year it is. With Earth Day just around the corner it might be a great time to take that trip. You can spend the day learning about plants and how they affect our Earth. What a great way to celebrate and rediscover Earth and all its beauty.
Be sure to find out the hours and days that the garden is open when you are planning your day. Also see what the rules and regulations may be. This will keep from anyone not knowing how they are to act and what they can and cannot due while visiting the gardens. Also talk with your children about what they will see. Sometimes surprises are a good thing but in this instance they may not be. If you tell your children you’re going to a garden and they don’t understand what it is all about you may get some resistance from them. By talking to them ahead of time they will see that this could be a very fun venture and quite a learning experience. Remember that plants provide food and oxygen to our earth. Talk to your kids about the importance of this as you walk through the garden. See if you can find plants that are used in the making of food, medicines and other necessities to our lively hood. Talk about why it is important that our ground is covered with plants and how this helps to prevent erosion and flooding. It is important that our children be aware of just how much we rely on these plants every day. It might even be fun to plant your own garden once you get home. Talk about the different plants you saw and the research to see what ones will work in your yard. Work together to create a garden that everyone will be proud of. Just be sure to let the kids know that it doesn’t stop there. Plants need to be nurtured and taken care of to grow and prosper. Celebrating Earth day can be fun if you spend a little time somewhere that brings all the good things our Earth gives us to the forefront. By taking the time to visit a botanical garden and talking about all the benefits plants have you and your children will begin to appreciate the beauty and wonder of our great planet Earth. |
