> Valentine's Day Activities Creating Children’s Valentine JewelryChildren love to work with their hands and make things. Jewelry is something they can make on their own and then wear with pride. Instead of buying children pieces of jewelry for Valentine’s Day help them to create their own. What You’ll Need* Jewelry twine* Elastic string * Heart shaped beads * Red, pink and white beads InstructionsStart by helping your child measure the size of necklace and bracelet they would like. Measure their heads to make sure the necklace will fit over it if they are using the jewelry twine. If it will be a choker made with the elastic string measure around their neck to make sure the choker won’t be too tight. Also be sure to measure around the wrist or ankle if they are crafting bracelets. Be sure you have enough elastic string that they can fit it over their hand or foot.If they are making a necklace with jewelry twine, tie a knot in one end before they start to lace on the beads. This will keep the beads from falling off and causing frustration. Once they have the beads on the string, place the necklace around their neck and tie off the ends. Be sure you have a bead large enough to fit over the knot. Just slide the bead over the knot in the back and no one will even know it’s there. Do the same if they are making a bracelet. Use the elastic string to make it easier for them to put on and take off. Plus the elastic string will keep the bracelet close to their wrist or ankle. This will help to keep them from catching their bracelet on anything. If you have boys who aren’t as into pink and red jewelry, try using candy in place of beads. Boys will have a great time creating yummy jewelry they can show off and then eat. Letting your children make their own jewelry can be fun and exciting for both of you. They will have a ball showing off their items and telling everyone they made it themselves. |
