Try your hand at a homemade creation for your circus themed party!

What You’ll Need

cone shaped party hats (white or light solid color)
ribbon
scissors

sunglasses
construction paper
markers

Instructions

Purchase cone-shaped party hats in white or another light color and several rolls of thin ribbon in assorted colors.

1. Use a pair of scissors to make slits about a quarter of an inch in length all over the hat.

2. Cut several pieces of ribbon in varying lengths.

3. Slide one end of a piece of ribbon through a slit from the inside of the hat to the outside. Slide the other end of the ribbon through a nearby slit. Once all the ribbon pieces have been inserted, curl them with the blade of a pair of scissors.

4. Give a hat to each child when they enter the party.


If the party is in the spring or summer, give out funny sunglasses as a prize. For older kids use the gigantic sunglasses.

1. To make your own creation, purchase several pairs of regular sunglasses. Cut out a piece of white construction paper to fit over top of each lens.

2. Make a hole in the center of the paper that is big enough to see through.

3. Use markers to add lots of colorful designs to the paper.

4. Glue the colored paper over each lens to create your own silly sunglasses.

These both make great party favors for a circus theme! You can also use this activity as a craft and have the guests make their own hats or sunglasses while attending the party. Have fun and think of what else you can decorate the hat or sunglasses with!
