Cleaning Up the Kitchen

Children of all ages can learn to clean a kitchen. Start them at a young age with easy tasks, and as they get older they can learn how to do the harder ones. It helps them to learn responsibility. Also, it teaches them how important it is to keep the environment they live in clean.
Young children are very capable of helping in the kitchen. Show them how to scrape their plates in the trash. They can learn how put their dishes in the sink. You can even teach them how to wipe the table clean after dinner.

As they get older, kids are able to do more a little at a time. They can be taught how to load, start, and unload a dishwasher if you have one. If you don't they can learn to wash, dry and put away the dishes by hand. Even if you do have a dishwasher, it is still worthwhile to teach your child how to do it the old fashioned way.

There are other chores besides dishes a child can learn to do in the kitchen. You can teach your child how to take out the trash, sweep and mop the floors, and clean the counters. Teach your kid what products to use and how to use them safely.

Now that your children know how to help you clean the kitchen, you can give them chores. Make a chart, rotating a different chore for each night. You can offer special rewards or an allowance if they complete their weekly chores. Your child will not only have learned how to clean the kitchen, but will have a much greater sense of responsibility.
