Creating a Recipe Book Together

Creating a recipe book can be loads of fun for you and your kids. Your children will learn how to cook a variety of different things. It takes time and patience, but is very rewarding.
Find your favorite recipe filled website, magazine and/or cookbook and let your child choose different recipes that look interesting to them. They can look for appetizers, salads, soups, meals, and deserts. Try to help them find recipes that are not too complicated.

Once they have chosen what they would like to cook, let them copy it to paper or note cards. First they need to write down all the ingredients. Next, they will need to write down all the steps of preparation. Make sure they include all the measurements, temperatures, and times.

Now they have their recipes, let your child prepare the dishes once a week for your family. Supervise and help them, but let them do all the work. If you see your kid is getting ready to make a mistake, show them the correct way to do it. Otherwise, let them be the chef. You can even give your child their own chef's hat and apron.

Now it is time to enjoy whatever it is your child has created. If he or she likes what they have made, put their recipe in a notebook. Over time they will have made their very own cookbook filled with recipes they like.
