> Christmas Activities Creating an Advent WreathAn advent wreath is a symbol used to welcome the birth of Christ. By lighting one candle for four Sundays before Christmas and then lighting one on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day it symbolizes the day that Christ was born. Many religious entities use this wreath in their Sunday worship. Many families enjoy having them in the privacy of their own home. To make an advent wreath you will need: What You’ll Need* Wire wreath frame* Greenery swags * Artificial berries * Pine cones * Hot glue gun and glue * 3 blue candles * 1 pink candle * 1 white candle * 4 candle holders * Ribbon InstructionsUsing the wire wreath frame let the children place the greenery swags around the frame. Be sure they fill it in well so that it looks full and no holes appear any where in the wreath.Once the wreath is covered in the greenery add berries and pine cones to decorate the wreath. Use the hot glue gun to attach these to the greenery. If you have smaller children you will need to help them with this. Make bows out of the ribbon and attach them with the hot glue gun. Place the candles in the candle holders. Place the pink and blue candles in the wreath itself. Place the white candle in the middle of the wreath. Let your children know the candles symbolize four virtues. Those blue candles stand for hope, love and peach. The pink stands for joy. The white candle in the middle is to be lit on Christmas Eve night or Christmas day to symbolize the birth of Jesus Christ. Making an Advent wreath not only gives your children a great craft to do but also gives them knowledge about why we celebrate Christmas. Taking the time to talk to your children about it’s purpose and lighting the candles will be a treasure all in it’s own. |
