Dad (or Mom) Rocks PaperweightsWith Father’s Day (or Mother's Day) coming up…and coming yearly…we found a great gift for even little kids to make with their own little hands. Nothing says “love” like something from the heart. How about a cool paperweight? Here’s What You’ll NeedSmooth, roundish rock, about the size of your fist.Soapy water and a scrub brush Paint brush Acrylic paint in mom or dad’s favorite color Glitter paint Black Sharpie Acrylic spray (optional) Instructions1. Give your rock a good scrubbing. Be sure to get into the crevices, then dry thoroughly.2. Once it’s good and dry, paint the rock all over with acrylic paint. 3. Let it dry then apply another coat. 4. When the second coat is dry you might want to give the entire rock a light coat of glitter paint or “speckle” the rock by tapping a paintbrush filled with another color paint on a pencil to give it a spotted look. 5. Write the words “Dad Rocks” or “Mom Rocks” on your paperweight, preferably in glitter paint. If it’s easier for little hands, use a glitter pen. 6. Let it all dry thoroughly, and then the next day outline the letters with a black Sharpie to make the words “pop”. If you want to, you can have a grown-up spray the paperweight with acrylic clear spray, but this step is totally optional. This is a good project for kids 4-5 and up. |
