Decorating For Halloween

There are so many ways you and your children can decorate your home for Halloween. Of course the traditional pumpkin is a must and you can always go out and buy Halloween decorations. How about letting your children make them. It will be so much fun and what a delight to see your children when they have turned their everyday home into a makeshift haunted house. Here are a few ideas to try.
Your child will think of many different ideas but you can start out with the easy ones. Making a ghost is simple to do and very inexpensive. Start with a white sheet and a metal coat hanger. Hang the sheet over the hanger making sure the top of the hanger comes through the top of the sheet. Take a black marker and make the ghosts eyes and mouth. Hang it from a hook by a window or door so the ghost can float when the air hits it.

Let them make a witch to hang on the wall or the door. Take a piece of heavy black construction paper and cut out a pointed witches hat. Now take a piece of green construction paper and cut out a round circle that comes to a point at the bottom. Using black fabric for the witches dress. Tack the fabric to the wall or door. At the top of the fabric place the green circle. Be sure that your children have added eyes, a pointy nose and a frowning mouth. They can also use a brown marker to make warts on the witches face. Add some black straggly wig hair with glue around the top and sides of the face. Now attach the hat to the top and there you have it, a witch. Your children can also make a broom by using dark brown construction paper for the handle and a yellow or tan construction paper for the actual broom. Be sure they fray one side of the light construction paper to give it the broom effect.

Last but not least don’t forget the bats. Let your children cut bats out of construction paper and glue them together in a row. Using red marker they can make the eyes and the fangs on the bats. Tack them on the wall or across the ceiling if you want to make them look as if they are flying.

One last thing, don’t forget the pumpkins. Pumpkins are the highlight of every child’s Halloween. So take them to the pumpkin patch and let them have a ball choosing just the right pumpkins to turn into Jack-O-Lanterns for their party.
