Dinosaur Party Cake

The main attraction at this dinosaur party is the cake. You can purchase a dinosaur cake from the bakery section of a grocery store. Specify what kind of decorations you want on the cake. Adding figures to the cake is usually included in the price of the birthday cake you choose. Or you can try your hand at making your own dinosaur cake!

Cake decorations: Frosting, sprinkles, etc.

Directions

1. Make a yellow cake according to the directions on the box. Bake in a nine inch round cake pan. When the cake is done and cooled, cut it into pieces to create your dinosaur shape. Cut the cake in half first. The top half will be the body of the cake.

2. If you want a stegosaurus, cut the other half of the cake in half lengthwise. The rectangular slice can be cut in thirds with one cut made at an inward angle.

3. The two straighter pieces form the dinosaur’s legs. The other piece will be the dinosaur’s tail.

4. The last piece of the cake should be cut into triangle wedges and placed along the rounded back to be the spines.

5. A rounded dessert cake from the store (Little Debbie’s is okay) can double as the head. Cut a triangle-shaped wedge out of the dessert cake to form a mouth. Add green food coloring to vanilla icing.

6. If you have a problem icing the cake, push toothpicks through each spine and the legs into the body of the dinosaur. Licorice and frosted gumdrops can be used to decorate the cake.

Offering ice cream with the cake is up to you. The kids have already consumed pudding cups so they might not want ice cream. A piece of dinosaur cake should be enough.

Don't forget the punch! In a large punch bowl, mix pineapple juice with lemon-lime soda. Make sure that both drinks are chilled. Add a half gallon box of lime sherbet to the punch. The sherbet will fizz as it melts into the punch. The resulting green color makes this punch positively prehistoric.
