People that search for dinosaurs are called paleontologists. Let the party try their hand at becoming a fossil finder, too. 1. Take a small swimming pool and fill it with sand. 2. Scatter fake bones throughout the sand. A craft store should have dinosaur model sets. 3. You may need to paint the bones beforehand so that they stand out against the color of the sand. Provide each child with a bucket and a shovel to find their fossils. 4. The one who finds the most bones wins a prize. Hold a dinosaur egg hunt. 1. Hide the eggs before the kids are allowed in the back yard. If you want, do this game before the other outdoor games so the kids won’t find the eggs by accident. 2. Decorate a couple of packages of plastic eggs with dot stickers to resemble baby dinosaur eggs. Fill the eggs with small toys and candy pieces. 3. Give each child a bucket to hold their eggs. For this game, each child keeps the eggs they find and the child that finds the most gets an additional prize. Let the kids try their hands at tossing the rings. 1. A ring toss game can be purchased at a party store and stores like Wal-Mart, K-mart, or Target. Decorate each tossing pole with dinosaur stickers. 2. The number of turns each child gets is determined by the number of rings in the set. They have to successfully get at least one of their rings over the posts to get a prize. This game gives each child a chance to win at least one prize. For kids who like a challenge, play the dinosaur shell game. 1. Wash and remove the labels from three empty soup cans. Wrap them with green construction paper. 2. Use a small plastic rock to be the ball. Put the rock under one of the cans. With the child watching, move the cans around and around. When you stop, ask the child to point to the can that has the rock under it. If the child guesses correctly they win a prize. Each child gets three chances to win. |
