> Dinosaur Activities Duck-Billed Dinosaur MaskA Parasaurolophus is a duck-billed dinosaur with a long bony crest on top of its head. He was a plant-eating dinosaur that walked on two feet. He actually had a notch in his back to make room for that bony crest for when he leaned his head back! How weird - and cool - is that? And it may have been able to make foghorn-like sounds with that bony crest! Make this mask and see if any of your friends can guess what you are! Parasaurolophus SuppliesCereal boxScissors Tape Craft knife Paper towel cardboard tube Glue Old newspapers Paints Paintbrushes Party horn Paper punch Elastic, long enough to go around the child's head Let's Make That Duck-Billed, Bony-Crested Herbivore Mask!1. Cut one large side off from a cereal box, creating a rectangular sheet of cardboard. Turn two lower edges of the cardboard towards the middle so that they overlap. Tape the edges together. This is the mask.2. Place the mask over the child's face, resting the child's chin over the overlapping edges. Mark where the holes should be for the child's eyes. Cut out the holes with a craft knife. 3. Tape or glue the paper towel cardboard tube lengthwise over the middle of the mask, right between the eye holes. 4. Cut old newspapers into strips about 1 inch thick. Glue the strips all over the mask. Let dry completely. 5. When the mask is dry, cut a slit through the mask and cardboard tube right above the overlapping edges. Make the slit big enough for the party horn to fit through. 6. Paint the mask in the color desired. For a more realistic effect, use shades of different colors, such as greens and browns. Allow to dry thoroughly. 7. When the mask is dry, punch two holes on either side, right below the eye holes. Knot the elastic around each hole, making sure it is long enough to fit snugly around the child's head. 8. Push the party horn through the slit, making sure it reaches the child's mouth when the mask is on. 9. Surprise everybody with this unusual mask! |
