> Christmas Activities DIY PomanderThese make wonderful ornaments or even gifts for family and friends! They can also serve as a table centerpiece, if you make several and put them together in a bowl. Their lovely scent can last for years! What You’ll NeedOrangeWhole cloves Cinnamon powder Nutmeg powder Ground cloves Ribbon Scissors Knitting needle or metal or wooden skewers Paper bag Instructions1. Cover the orange entirely with holes by poking the needle or skewers through the peel. You will want the holes to be slightly larger than the cloves, as they will shrink up as the orange dries. You can poke the holes in straight rows or in a pattern.2. Push the sharp end of the cloves into the holes you've made. Make sure to completely cover the entire orange with cloves. 3. Sprinkle some cinnamon powder, nutmeg powder and ground cloves in the paper bag. Shake the bag to mix it all up nicely. 4. Put your clove-covered orange in the bag and roll it around to fully cover it with the spices. 5. Leave the orange in the paper bag for a few weeks, giving it sufficient time to dry out. (To make sure your orange is dried out, it should sound hollow when you tap on it and it should feel much lighter.) 6. Once you've decided the orange is good and dried out, take it out of the bag, shaking off any excess powder. 7. Tie a pretty ribbon around the pomander, making a hanger. You can also use the pomander to keep a closet or cupboard smelling sweet. |
