Help Your Child Establish Good Study HabitsIt’s almost the end of summer and it’s time to start thinking about sending your children back to school. Homework and studying can be a struggle for your child. To help alleviate some of this stress here are a few tips to help your child.
Start by setting a time for homework to be done. Be sure the time you choose is a sufficient amount of time for your child to finish their work without feeling pressured. Set up a specific area for your child to study. This area should be a quiet place free of TV, radio and everyday family traffic. Be sure your child has a comfortable place to sit while doing their homework and all the necessities such as pencils, pens and paper that they would need. Provide your child with a snack before or after their homework is completed. If it is after school your child will be hungry from their long day. If it is after dinner your child will need a small snack to help wind down before going to bed. Also be sure to have something available for them to drink while studying. Working minds make for thirsty mouths! Always be available to help your child. Children can struggle with homework especially after a long day at school so always provide advice but don’t complete their work for them. This is their learning experience. Also be sure your child takes small breaks. They need to be able to stand up and stretch their legs and backs. This will also help them to clear their minds for the next task at hand. Children spend more time at school and on their studies then we as adults spend at the office. By helping your child to establish good study habits they will start to build a foundation for their adult working life. |
