> Christmas Activities Creating Foam Christmas OrnamentsMaking their own Christmas decorations can brighten almost any child’s holiday. Not only does it give them something to do while on Christmas break but it also gives them a chance to show their creative side. Here’s an idea for making foam ornaments for your Christmas tree. What You’ll Need* Foam Christmas cutouts* Children’s pictures * Glue * Scissors InstructionsFinding foam cutouts isn’t difficult. Most craft stores carry such items. They are easy to work with no matter what the child’s age is. They just punch them out of the foam and then decorate them any way they wish.Let the children choose which ornament they would like. It might be Santa, a star, or a reindeer but let them make the choice. When they have chosen their ornament shape they can punch it out of the foam. Take a picture of each child and cut out their face to fit on the ornament. You may have to help smaller children with this task. Older children may find they want to do some fancy cutting around the edges. That’s great just make sure it’s not too big to fit on the cutout. Now they can paste their picture onto the head or center of the ornament, depending on what pattern they choose. They can place a small amount of glue on the back of the picture and attach it right to the foam. They may have to wait overnight for the glue to completely dry before doing any more work to the ornament. When the glue has dried carefully place a hole in the top of the ornament. Add a piece of ribbon through the hole and tie it in a bow. Add a hook and hang it on the tree. Having your child’s face adorn a Santa Claus or an Elf on the Christmas tree is something special. Keeping those treasures for years to come will bring back fond memories of Christmas’ past for everyone in the family. |
