> Christmas Activities A Garland TreeHow many of us have heard “Mom can I decorate my bedroom?” Most of us have and to some extent we do allow our children to decorate. Most of us though don’t treasure the idea of a Christmas tree in our children’s bedrooms. Even small ones can be a hazard with glass and even plastic ornaments and lights. Here’s a Christmas tree that will be not only safe but completely made by your child. What You’ll Need* Pine garland* Green poster board * Scissors * Packing tape * Glue * Lightweight plain paper * Markers or crayons * Needle and dark green thread InstructionsFirst take the poster board and cut a slit from the bottom to the middle of the board. Fold the poster board into a cone shape. Tape it on the inside well to hold the tree together.Once you have cone shape take the pine garland and start at the top of the cone. Be sure to glue it well. Then wrap the garland around the tree to the bottom. Once again be sure to glue the end well and also place some glue strategically around to hold the garland in place throughout the tree. Once the tree is built and the glue has dried let the kids make the decorations to hang on it. The paper needs to be lightweight so they don’t pull the tree over and you don’t want to make to many and overload the tree. Using the paper and marker or crayons let the kids come up with their own ornament ideas. You might be surprised at the types of things they want on their own tree. Once they have completed their special ornaments they will need to be able to attach them to their tree. Use a small needle and very lightweight dark green thread. Place the thread through the needle. Then poke the needle through at the top of the ornament. Pull the thread half way through and tie it off. Cut the thread and there you have an ornament to hang on the tree. Let the kids have a great time decorating their tree. Once it’s finished they can place it in their bedroom and you will have not worry or fuss during your Christmas holiday. |
