George Washington’s Cherry Tree

Whether the story of the Cherry Tree is legend or fact really doesn't matter. What's important here is the lesson to learn, and the fun you'll have while learning that lesson. Even the littlest child will come away from this craft with a clear understanding of truth telling.

What You’ll Need

Large piece of paper (big enough for child's arm to form tree and branches)
non-toxic Green Paint
non-toxic Brown Paint
non-toxic Red Paint
soft paint brush

Instructions

1.Paint your child’s arm and hand brown.
2.Lay arm/hand on paper several times to form a tree and branches.
3.Paint your child's hand green.
4.Have your child use their hand to make green hand prints for leaves.
5.Paint your child's fingertips and thumbs with red paint.
6.Use your child's fingers and thumbs to make cherry prints.
7.Story telling required: "I can NOT tell a lie..." Read the story of George Washington chopping down the cherry tree.
