Give Them the Gift of Yourself this Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is a special day to show the people we care about just how we feel. What better way to show your children how you feel then taking the time to spend some quality one on one time with them? It doesn’t have to be extravagant but it does need to be centered on that one child without any interruptions.

In our hustle bustle world it’s hard to find a couple of hours to spend with a child without the phone ringing, someone else wanting your attention or even a TV and video games being in the way. Giving your child just a couple hours of alone time with them can make all the difference in the world to both of you.

If you have more than one child this can be difficult but it can be accomplished. If your child is a morning person pick the morning and maybe take them out for breakfast. If your child is more of a night person then take them to a movie or even to dinner. Remember it’s not the amount of time you spend with them, it’s the fact that you are taking the time out of your busy day to make them feel special.

Children love to go shopping. Take your daughter to a department store and tell her to pick out her very own outfit. Let her decide what she likes, what suits her taste. It’s just one outfit and it doesn’t take long for a child to tire of these types of things. The important thing is that you are doing it together.

Take your son to a sporting good store to buy new equipment for that one sport he loves to play. Let him pick out the equipment he likes. Maybe he doesn’t want equipment but would like a new shirt that tells the world who his favorite team or player is. Remember it’s his time so let him venture out and find the exact gift he likes.

Maybe your children have decided they would like to take up a new musical instrument. Take them to the music store. Many music stores give lessons for certain musical instruments. Sign them up for lessons so they will know you are as interested as they are.

No matter what you decide to do with your child during that one on one time remember it’s a time for just the two of you to be together. It’s a gift that will show your children how much you love them and appreciate them.
