Handmade Flower Pots for Grandma

Grandmas LOVE Valentine’s Day gifts! And Grandma will love having her very own little flower growing in a flowerpot made by you. This is an inexpensive craft, but one that will bring a smile to Grandma’s face the moment she sees it.

What You’ll Need

* Clay flowerpot
* Flower seeds
* Potting soil
* Paint
* Paintbrush
* Stencils
* Clear fingernail polish

Instructions

The best flowerpots to use are the inexpensive brown clay pots. They will take and hold the paint better than the ceramic, more expensive ones do. The seeds you choose will determine the size of the flowerpot. Have your children pick out the flower they would like to give. Read the back of the seed envelope to determine the flowerpot size.

Once your child has chosen the seeds and flowerpot, they can start to think about how to decorate the flowerpot. They may want to use colors that match the colors of the flowers they have chosen. Maybe they would rather go with colors that they know are Grandma’s favorites.

The stencils can be anything your children would like to choose. Be sure they are sunny and cheerful to help keep a smile on Grandma’s face every time she looks at her flowers.

Have the children place the stencils against the pot and then paint inside the stencil. They will have wonderful designs if they hold the stencils as tight as possible while painting. If it’s difficult for them to hold the stencil, you can hold it or use scotch tape to hold it against the flowerpot. Remove the stencil slowly so the paint isn’t disturbed. Be sure to allow the paint to dry thoroughly before handling the flowerpot.

Once the paint has dried, your child will have the perfect Valentine’s Day gift for grandma. Won’t she be surprised to see all the love put into her special gift on this special day?
