> Halloween Activities Homemade Halloween CandlesOlder children like to make craft items too. Finding something that is challenging and creative can be difficult sometimes. Making Halloween candles might be just the thing your teenage children would like to do. It’s easy, fun and in the end they have something they can decorate your home with and say, “I made that myself.” Here’s how to do it. What You’ll Need* Various sizes of tin cans* Old magazines * Tape * Various sizes of nails * Hammer * Various colors of paint * Small paintbrushes * Sand * Small candles InstructionsWash the tin cans and remove any sharp edges. Fill the cans with water almost to the top and freeze. Once that is done your teenagers can spend time finding Halloween pictures that they want their candle to look like. They can cut them out of magazines or if they aren’t satisfied with what they have found they can make their own. The design should be cut in the shape of whatever they are creating. For instance, if it is a ghost it should be cut in the shape of a ghost. Now that the water has frozen have them tape their pictures to the cans. Using the hammer and a nail place holes about 1/8 of an inch apart all the way around the picture. The size of the nail will determine the size of the hole that the light from the candle will shine through. If they want it bright use a larger nail if they want it to shimmer use a smaller nail. Once the holes have been made remove the picture. Run the can under warm water to melt the ice. Now they can decorate their candle with the paint. When the paint has dried place a small amount of sand in the bottom of the can to keep the can from falling over. Place the candle in the sand. Now your children have their very own Halloween candles. Remember to use a grill lighter or something to that effect to light the candle. This will insure no one gets burned. Place them all around your home inside and out and enjoy. |
