Homemade Stuffed St. Patrick Snake

A cute idea for a St. Patrick’s Day craft is a stuffed snake. Kids love to play with stuffed animals and if they can make them on their own they are in seventh heaven. Here’s an easy way to accomplish this craft and keep it fun for everyone.

What You’ll Need

* Old tube sock
* Small buttons for the eyes
* Hot glue
* Hot glue gun
* Old newspaper
* Markers
* Rubber bands
* Yarn or ribbon

Instructions

Let the kids use the markers to color and create their snake. It doesn’t really matter what color they use although many St. Patrick’s Day snakes are a beautiful shade of green. They can make lighter or darker colored stripes on their snake with a different color of green. Black, brown and red markers also help to decorate a snake.

Once they are finished coloring their snake they will want to stuff him. Crumple up the old newspaper and stuff the sock. Be sure as they get to the opening of the sock they keep the newspaper a little thinner. This is the tail end of the snake and they want it to come to a thinner point just like a real snake.

When the snake is stuffed use the rubber bands to close the end and keep it secure. You can also make a rattler effect by attaching several rubber bands that are spread out at the end of the tail. Add a few small beads and you can even hear the rattle as the snake moves.

Use the hot glue gun to glue the buttons or eyes on the front of the snake. A piece of yard or ribbon works great for the snake’s tongue. Also glue it on with the hot glue.

What a great and easy craft for your children to make. What fun they will have scaring everyone they know with their St. Patrick’s Day snake. Better keep your eyes open who knows where you might find that snake next.
