Keeping a DiaryWhen you were a child did you keep your own diary? Keeping a diary is a good way to think things through, plan things out and remember your childhood. Help your child at an early age with keeping a diary of their childhood.
Explain to your child what a diary is. If you have yours show them what it looks like and some of the entries you made. Let them know it’s their’s alone and it is their choice to let someone else see or read it. Help them pick out their diary. Your child needs to know from the beginning this is their own. Take them to purchase a diary that is just right for them. Let them know they can keep their diary anywhere they feel it is safe. Also explain to them that what they write are their thoughts, feelings, wants and needs. They can write about their day, a friend, their parents, their school or anything they feel is important to them. They should be able to feel comfortable putting their thoughts and views on paper. Most diaries supply two keys for the lock. Your child of course should have one for themselves. The other should be placed in a spot that only your child knows. They will feel comfortable knowing that it is still private but will also have a backup key just in case they lose their key. With a diary your child will have a record of their childhood memories that someday they can share with their own children. |
