Practice fire safety in your own home, using the following ideas.
Demonstrate to your children that you have smoke detectors outside their bedrooms (with working batteries) and practice your home exit plans.

Run several scenarios with your children, as if a fire started in each area of the house. Where are the different exits? When should your child stay in her room?

Remind your children where to meet you in the instance of a fire. Have a meeting place and stress the importance of going straight to the meeting place so you know that they are safe.

Make sure your children know that ALL of their possessions are replaceable, but that they are not, so they should leave the house quickly without saving their toys.
