King and Queen of the House

Giving of ourselves on Valentine’s Day is the best way to show the people you care about how much they mean to you. Allowing your children to be King or Queen of the house for one day shows them that you appreciate all the things they do to keep your household running smooth and happy.

Make them a crown or a heart shaped badge that says KING or QUEEN. Be sure they wear it all day long so they not only feel special, but everyone else remembers how special they are as well.

Do their chores for that day.
I know it can seem like adding to your frustration of a day, but they need to know that you are willing to do the things you ask them to do. It also shows them that you appreciate what they do. If you pay them an allowance and their chores are one of the things that comes with that allowance be sure to go ahead and pay them for that day. It lets them know they are worthwhile and that doing their chores means something special to you.

Taking up their household duties for the day can also have a greater effect for you because they’ll see that you are willing to do things for them, therefore making it easier for them to do things for you.

Make their favorite foods.
It could be a breakfast, lunch or dinner maybe even all three. This will show them that you care and pay attention to the things that mean something to them also. You can even serve them breakfast in bed.

Be their servant for the day.
Maybe your children bring you coffee in the morning or make you that glass of tea at some point during the day. Do this for them on their special day. Let them know that it means the world to you that they think of you and appreciate you by thinking of these special little things to brighten your day.

Let them choose the TV programs to watch.
Of course you don’t want it to get out of hand, but with a little guidance they can rein over the television viewing for one day. With that in mind you could also allow them to stay up a little later to watch their favorite movie. It won’t hurt them to have just a little less sleep for one night.

Whatever you decide to do making them feel like they are a king or queen for this one day will not only make them feel special, but will give them a little insight on how much you appreciate everything they do for the entire family.
