Knight's Sword and Shield

Whether you are dressing up for Halloween as a knight in shining armor or imagining your backyard as a fortress in medieval times, you'll be needing your trusty sword and shield! This is a sword and shield that Sir Lancelot himself would be proud to own.

What You’ll Need

cardboard box
pencil
scissors or craft knife
glue
metallic silver and gold paints
other color paints
paintbrushes
markers

Instructions

1. From the sides of the cardboard box, draw and cut out a shield and a sword.

2. Paint the blade of the sword silver; paint the handle gold. Paint the shield in silver. Let the sword and shield dry completely.

3. Meanwhile, cut two strips of cardboard, about 2 inches wide. One should be as long as the shield's length; the other should be as long as the shield's width. Paint the cardboard strips in silver or gold.

4. When the shield is completely dry, glue the cardboard strips onto the front. They should form a cross shape (a '+' shape).

5. Draw symbols in each of the four areas (the grid formed by the +) of the shield. Draw symbols that stand for an object or interest that is important to the child; pets, hobbies, family, etc. Complete the drawings with markers and or paint.

6. Glue a strip of cardboard or piece of heavy elastic to the back to form a handle.
