> Mother's Day Activities Lemon Scented SoapsGrandma’s like Mother’s Day presents too. Making soap she can set in her bathroom may be just the present for your child to give. With a little help from you your child can make Grandma a basket of soap that will give her enjoyment for some time to come. What You’ll Need* 8 oz. clear glycerin* Soap mold * Lemon essential oil * Yellow food coloring * 6 TBSP cornmeal * 2 tsp. poppy seeds * Small basket * Light green and orange ribbon (or Grandma's favorite colors) InstructionsYou will have to help with this project especially if your child is younger. Begin by melting the glycerin as directed on the package. Once the glycerin is completely melted, add three drops of the oil and 3 drops of the food coloring.Pour the cornmeal and poppy seeds into the mixture and stir well. Kids love the stirring part, but make sure they are careful because the glycerin will be hot and can burn their skin. Once the mixture is mixed together well, help them pour it into the soap molds. Allow the glycerin to set until completely hardened. While the soap is hardening they can decorate the basket. Have them tie the ribbons on the handles or lace it through the top and bottom of the basket. Let them use their imagination with the ribbon to make a basket that will stand out and Grandma will enjoy. Once the soap is hard pop it out of the molds. Place them in the basket. Usually 3 or 4 soaps are a good amount to keep it pretty and smelling as fresh as lemons. You can use any oil you like. If Grandma is partial to a certain scent then go ahead and make the soap that scent. Use food coloring to match the scent along with the ribbons added to basket. Grandma will be so surprised and she will have a gift she can treasure for a long time to come. |
