Magnetic Dimetrodon

A Dimetrodon was a mammal that is often confused for a dinosaur. It was a meat-eating animal that lived during the Permian period. It had a huge sail on its back. It lived long before dinosaurs existed, but it sure looks like one.

Dimetrodon Parts

Two wooden ice cream spoons
Popsicle stick
Glue
Aluminum pie tin
Scissors
Double-sided tape
Strip of magnet
Poster paints
Paintbrush
Markers

Making Your Dimetrodon

1. Paint the ice cream spoons and popsicle stick in the desired colors. Multiple colors, sort of 'marbled', might look really great, too.

2. Carefully cut the popsicle stick to make four legs. Glue two legs to each ice cream spoon.

3. Cut the aluminum pie tin in half. This becomes the sail on the back of the Dimetrodon. Sandwich the piece of pie tin in between the two wooden ice cream spoons. Use lots of double-sided tape to keep secure.

4. Draw eyes and other features with the markers, or use wiggly eyes for your Dimetrodon.

5. Cut the strip of magnet to fit along one side of the Dimetrodon. Attach with the double-tape.
