> St. Patrick's Day Activities Make a Shamrock WandComing up with crafts for St. Patrick’s Day can be a little frustrating sometimes. You want to keep the children busy and still teach them something about the holiday. Here’s an idea that will not only keep them busy but give them something different. Not too many people have a shamrock wand. Here’s how it’s done. What You’ll Need* Green card stock* Scissors * Glue * Glitter * Green and white ribbon * Wooden skewers * Green paint different shades * Paint brush * Hot glue gun * Hot glue InstructionsStart by painting the wooden skewer green. While the paint dries begin making the shamrocks. Use a pencil on the card stock. Make a heart in the middle of the card stock. Now make a heart on either side of the middle one making sure the points come together at the bottom. Now make your stem. Once you have them traced on the card stock cut them out. Be sure you have two shamrocks per stick.Let the children decorate their shamrocks. Use the paint and glitter to make the shamrocks stand out and be noticed. It doesn’t really matter how they decorate them as long as they are happy with the finished product. Once the decorations have dried and skewer has dried you can attach the shamrock to the wand. Children may need your help with this part. Using a hot glue gun can be a little tricky so stand by to lend a hand when they are ready. To place the shamrock to the wand lay one shamrock decorated side down. Use the glue gun and hot glue to attach the wand. Now place some hot glue to the back side of the other shamrock. With the decorated side facing you attach it to the wand. Cut the ribbon to use as streamers for the wand. These can also be attached to the shamrock and the wand with the hot glue gun. Your children will be excited to tell everyone about their unusual shamrock wands. What leprechaun would be complete without one? |
