Make A Snow Globe

Snow globes are such a wonderful thing to watch. Children love them and if we will admit it so do we adults. Watching the snow fall around the little figurines inside the globe makes us feel happy and warm inside. Children who watch snow globes have a serene look on their face and are fascinated by what they see. Here’s how your children can make their own snow globe this year.

What You’ll Need

* Plastic or glass jars such as baby food jars
* Christmas figurines
* Sequins
* Shower and tub sealing silicone
* Mineral oil
* Large bowl big enough to completely submerge the jar

Instructions

This craft can take a couple of days to complete so be sure to tell your children that patience is important but they will have a finished product to enjoy soon.

Start by making sure the jars you use are clean and dry. This includes the lids to the jars. For the silicone to work they must be completely dry.

The first step is to attach a Christmas figurine to the underneath side of the lid. Use the silicone and place the figurine directly in the middle of the lid. Allow the silicone to dry completely. This is very important to keep the figurine from falling off the lid when shaken.

Next place small sequins in the bottom of the jar. These need to be small so they will glide down easily in the jar. Some craft stores have sequins that are the color Mother of Pearl. These work very well in a snow globe but if you can’t find this color, white and silver also work well.

Once the sequins are in the jar submerge the jar in a bowl of mineral oil. Mineral oil works because it slows the falling effect. The actual snow falling lasts longer. Be sure not to loose any of the sequins out of the jar.

When the jar is completely submerged attached the lid. Watch for air bubbles and make sure the lid is secured tightly. Pull the jar out of the mineral oil and allow the jar to dry completely. When the jar is dry seal the jar around the lid with the silicone. Again be sure the silicone dries completely so the globe doesn’t leak.

If your children would like they can decorate the outside of the globe with stickers or glitter glue. Just remind them to leave areas free of decoration so they can watch the snowfall around the Christmas figurine inside the globe.
