Make Your Own Christmas Cards

Getting that first Christmas card really signifies the beginning of the Christmas season. Everyone enjoys sending them and everyone enjoys getting them. Even our children enjoy them. Let the kids make their own cards this year. Grandparents, other family members, teachers and friends will love seeing the cards your children made just for them.

What You’ll Need

* Construction paper
* Glitter glue
* Crayons and markers
* Old Christmas cards
* Scissors
* Glue

Instructions

Christmas cards are easy to make and fun to do. The kids can start by picking a sheet of construction paper and cutting down to card size. Be sure they know to have enough to be able to fold the paper over so they have an inside to the card also.

Let the children sort through your old Christmas cards and find pictures to cut out of them for their own cards. Once the cut the pictures out they can glue to the front and inside of their card.
This will help your children’s cards to be more festive. If you have an artist on your hands they may want to draw their own pictures on their card. The more it’s homemade the better.

With the glitter glue they can add touches to their card. On the outside or inside glitter glue helps to add some sparkle to their card. There are even some craft stores that sell glitter glue that looks like real snow. This would be a great addition to your child’s card.

On the inside of the card they can draw and color their own pictures or add a few small pictures cut out from the old Christmas cards. They can also place their “Merry Christmas” sayings in the card. Remember to let them express their wishes and Christmas cheer in their own words. With smaller children you may have to help them write it but still allow them to express their own feelings. Be sure the children sign the card.

One last thing: have the children put the year on the back of the card. This way parents, grandparents and teachers will be able to go back one day and remember when they received the card without having to fight their memory too much.
