Make Your Own Earth Pinata

My son's third grade class made Earth Pinatas last year for Earth day.

What You’ll Need

* 1 balloon
* Newspaper
* 1 cup flour
* 2 cups water
* Blue, green, and brown poster paint
* String
* Scotch tape
* 2 bowls
* Paint Brush
* Scissors
* Wrapped Candy

Instructions

1. Cut the newspaper into long, narrow strips.
2. In a bowl, mix the flour and water to make a paper mache paste.
3. Blow up the balloon. Use the other bowl to rest the balloon on while you are working.
4. Dip the newspaper strips into the paste and cover the balloon with five to six layers.
5. Let dry for at least ten hours.
6. Once it’s dry, pop the balloon by cutting a small hole at the top with scissors. Use the same hole to fill the pinata with candy.
7. Tape a piece of thick string (long shoelace works!) to the top of the pinata.
8. Use a paint brush to paint the Earth's surface and then hang it somewhere to dry.
9. Have fun!
