Make Your Own Ghost Costume

What is the first thing that comes to mind when you think of a Halloween costume? A ghost of course? Making a ghost costume can be very easy. Here are a couple of ideas to dress up that ghost costume for your child.

What You’ll Need

* White sheet
* White turtleneck
* White pants
* White socks
* White tennis shoes
* Shower cap
* Washout hair color
* Non-chemical face powder
* Black eyeliner
* Heavy black or brown construction paper
* Newspaper
* Black paint
* Wire
* Scissors
* A little dirt

Using that typical white sheet cut out a large hole not quite in the center that will fit over your child’s head. Cut the bottom of the sheet jagged so that it looks like it waves when your child walks. Also be sure the sheet only comes about to their ankles in length. Under the sheet your child can wear a white sweat suit or white pants and white turtleneck. Be sure they have plain white socks and tennis shoes to wear. Take the sheet and rumple it up some so it looks like an old worn out ghost. You can also rub a little dirt around on the sheet to make it look older.

Now onto the head of your little ghost. Take a shower cap and paint it white. Next strategically place holes in the shower cap to pull little pieces of their hair through. Then tip their pieces of hair with a darker hair color (the wash out right away kind).

For their little ghost face us a non-chemical white face powder and cover their entire face. Be careful around their eyes. Using black eyeliner put a complete circle around each eye. Also use the eyeliner to put a circle outlining their mouth.

For the finishing touches make a ball and chain for them to wear. Use heavy construction paper to make your chain. Cut strips and glue the ends together. Be sure to put each strip through the last link of your chain. Make it big enough to fit around your child’s waist and run about half way down their leg. Now take crumpled up newspaper made into a ball and paint it black. Attach the ball to the bottom of the chain with black string or wire.

Now you have a ghost like no other. If you prefer to have a friendly ghost like Casper then simply leave out the ball and chain. Either way, you have a ghost that will stand out and surprise even the best ghost hunters.
