Making Their Own Valentine's Cards

Instead of spending all that money for those fancy Valentine’s Day cards, why not help your children make their own this year? It’s pretty easy to do, and think of the fun they will have creating those special cards for all the special people in their life.

What You’ll Need

* Construction paper
* Markers, crayons and colored pencils
* Stickers
* Glitter glue
* Old Valentines Day cards
* Old Jan/Feb magazines
* Scissors
* Glue

Instructions

Start by taking the construction paper and folding it in half from top to bottom. This will create the actual card. It can be opened from the bottom up or from the side whichever the children prefer. If they want to create the single card to take to friends at school they can cut square or rectangle pieces from the construction paper and decorate the front side to make the card.

Once the card is folded let them have at it. They can decorate it with pictures they draw themselves or with cutouts from old cards and magazines. If you use magazines try to find January and February issues that have a lot of Valentine’s pictures included in them. Be sure they decorate the front and inside the card.

When it comes to the words they want to include in the card they can write them themselves or use letters cut out of the cards and magazines to create their saying. Remember to allow them to create just the words that will get their sentiments across. They may need some help if they are younger finding the correct letters/sayings and gluing them on the paper.

If the cards are going to Mom, Dad or grandparents, be sure to have them put at least the year on the very back. These types of cards are great keepsakes and years later you will want to remember exactly when they were made.

These cards can also be made on a computer with a card-creating program if you would rather make it easier and create less mess.

What fun your children will have not only creating their cards but also giving them out to the people that mean the most to them on Valentine’s Day.
