Mother's Day Ideas for Older Children

Moms are special in many ways. They are unselfish, kind, loving, caring and so much more. Unfortunately sometimes we take those qualities for granted, not intentionally, but we do.

Most Moms don’t expect a thing from her children on Mother’s Day. The perfect reason for her older children to do something special! Show her that you do appreciate each and every thing she does for the whole family.

Here are a few ideas that older kids can use to show Mom just how much she means to them.

* Take her out for lunch at her favorite restaurant. It doesn't have to be expensive, she'd be just as happy with quick take-out even, as long as she doesn't have to cook!

* Buy her favorite CD or DVD.

* Give her a box of her favorite chocolates.

* Place one red rose in a vase and present it to her. Write a poem telling her the things the child appreciates that she does on a daily basis.

* Surprise her with breakfast in bed - even if it is only McDonald's because the children are too young or don't know how to cook!

* Prepare the table for dinner, but remember she shouldn't be cooking that dinner.

* Do the laundry. Even if it's just a load or two.

* Take her to the park or to her favorite outdoor spot for a picnic lunch.

* Clean the house. Even just a room or two will make her happy, but of course if the child is ambitious enough the whole house is sure to make not only her day, but her week.

* Bake her a cake or her favorite type of cookies and decorate them especially for her.

* Take her to a movie. The child (or Dad) pick up the tab for the movie and the refreshments. Score extra points, if it's a movie she really wants to see.

* Buy her favorite bath oil and some candles and create a gift basket just for her.

* Using the computer, create a card just for her.

* Offer to do a specific chore for a week. Depending on the age of the child, the more annoying it is to her, the better she'll like it.

* Buy her a gift certificate to her favorite store. Even if it's only $5 or $10 she'll love it.

* Give her a picture of you in a specially decorated frame.

* Decorate a jewelry box with her favorite photos or dried flowers.

* Make a bag of potpourri using dried flowers. Just be sure to plan ahead for this one so the flowers are dried enough for Mother's Day.

* Create a scrapbook made up of her favorite recipes.

No matter what kids do for their mother on Mother's Day, she is sure to love it. It really is the thought and the fact the kids took the time to show her they really care that matters.
