> Halloween Activities The Mummy CostumeMummy costumes have been around for ages. They are easy to make and fun to wear. Making a few changes to how the mummy costume is made may make for an interesting costume for your child. Try these ideas if a mummy costume is what you have in mind for your child. What You’ll Need* White or slightly yellowed sheet* Brewed tea * White medical tape * Light brown face powder * Black or brown eyeliner * Brown marker InstructionsStart by taking an old white or slightly yellowed sheet and cutting it into strips. If the sheet is already yellowing from age you can use those strips just as they are. If you have a white sheet then you can soak the strips in brewed tea over night and then allow them to dry thoroughly. This will give the mummy a look of age. Also fray some of the strips so they have an old used lookThere are a couple of different ways you can apply the strips for the mummy affect. Your child can wear a white turtleneck and leotards. Attach the mummy strips to the clothing using white medical tape. You can also just wrap the strips around your child from head to toe using medical tape to adhere the strips together. If you do it this way be sure to leave the eyes, end of their nose and mouth uncovered. For their face use a light brown powder to cover any exposed areas. Use dark brown or black under their eyes to give them the sunken eye effect. If you want to really do up your mummy use brown magic marker and outline things like their ribs, teeth or even bones in their fingers and toes. A black marker can be used to make it look as if body parts are missing from your mummy. Being a mummy may seem like a dull thing for your child but when your finished they will be proud of the costume they are wearing. They will also have a great time scaring their friends and family. |
