Native American Trail Stick

Native Americans recorded their journeys by attaching memorabilia on a stick. Make your own trail stick too!

What You’ll Need

long stick
stuff collected on a walk outdoors, such as: leaves, twigs, stones, feathers, flowers, dropped objects
rubber bands
optional: glue, paint

Instructions

1. Go for a walk outdoors and collect interesting bits and pieces that you see. These could include leaves, twigs, stones, feathers, flowers, and dropped objects. Don't pick up trash, though!

2. Attach the objects to your walking stick by using rubber bands.

3. Display your walking stick. See if others can guess where you went by looking at the objects on your walking stick.

You can also attach the found objects with glue, just be sure to let it dry. If you have more then one child, take them both on the same walk in the same area and see how different their trail sticks will be! You can also paint the stick before decorating it with your found objects.
