Personalized Cardboard Placemats

I don't know a child who doesn't like seeing their name or picture on something that belongs to them. A personalized placemat is such a great thing because it says "This is MY place!" when it's time to sit down at the dinner table. What a special feeling! You can make one just for special occasions too, like Birthdays, just by including the child's birth date. Now that's Special!

What You’ll Need

old cardboard box
scissors or craft knife
scrap fabric
patterned paper
letters for name and/or pictures of child
markers, and other decorative items if desired
clear adhesive paper, like 'Contact' paper
fabric glue or white glue

Instructions

1. Cut the cardboard box into your desired shape and size making sure a place setting will fit. Figure about 12" by 20".

2. Cut scraps of fabric and/or patterned paper to fit over the cardboard placemat. If desired, combine several fabrics or patterned papers for a different effect. If using fabric, use fabric glue or white glue to seal raw edges.

3. Arrange letters to spell child's name or use nice big markers and write name. You can also glue a picture or pictures of the child. You may want to use copies of pictures for this purpose. Write the child's birth date if this is a Birthday placemat. Use any other decorative stickers, glitter or what have you at this time.

4. Cover the finished top and bottom of the placemat with clear adhesive sheets, clear 'Contact' will work. This way you can wipe clean after using.
