Pine Cone Bird

Use pine cones and craft supplies from around the house to make this cute pine cone bird!

What You’ll Need

construction paper
scissors
glue
pine cone
feathers
markers
pipe cleaners
wiggly eyes - optional
string or yarn

Instructions

1. From the construction paper, draw and cut out a bird's head and beak. Draw eyes with markers, or glue on small wiggly eyes, if you have them. Glue the head to the pointed tip of the pine cone.

2. Glue the feathers to the sides of the pine cone.

3. Cut the pipe cleaner into two pieces for the bird's legs. Glue to the flat end of the pine cone. Curl the pipe cleaners under to make the bird's feet.

4. Cut the string or yarn into the desired length and tie to the top of the pine cone to make a hanger.

Depending on how many pine cones you find on the ground (or alternatively you could buy them at the craft store in packages) you could make several pine cone birds and in various sizes. Change the construction paper color and pipe cleaner color so your birds will look different from each other.

Also this is a great Christmas craft! The pine cone birds would make wonderful gifts for people as they can be easily hung, either in a window or from the tree. Pine cone bird ornaments would make a fun addition to your collection of ornaments.
