Argh It’s a Pirate Costume

Pirates have always been a wonder for a child. Many children sit in awe when they see a pirate on a movie or in a book. Why not dress your child up as a pirate for this Halloween? It’s easy to do and your child will be the envy of all the other children in the neighborhood. Argh Matey lets get busy!

What You’ll Need

* White long sleeve shirt
* Black pants
* Large red ribbon
* Red bandanna
* Hoop earring
* Fake bird
* Black and red eyeliner
* Black paint
* Cardboard
* Elastic
* Aluminum foil
* Black electrical tape
* Brown masking tape
* Wire

Instructions

Fray the bottom edges of both the shirt and pants. This will give your pirate costume an old haggard look. Place the bandanna on your child’s head and the ribbon around their waist for a belt. Use black eyeliner to make a mustache on your child. Then use red eyeliner and make a scar on their cheek or chin.

Every pirate needs a hoop earring. You can find plastic clip earrings in the toy department of your favorite store. The eye patch is also easy to make. Take a piece of cardboard and cut out a circle. Paint it black. Use a piece of elastic painted black and attach each end to the edge of the patch with black electrical tape.

Now for making their sword: Take a piece of cardboard cut out in the shape of a sword. Cover it with aluminum foil and use black electrical tape wrapped around the end for a handle.

Every pirate has to have a bird on his or her shoulder. Purchase a fake bird and attach it to your child’s shoulder with a piece of wire or a safety pin. One last idea is to give your little pirate a peg leg. Take brown masking tape and start at the top of their leg and wrap it all the way down to the top of their foot. This will make it look like a wooden peg leg and will also help your child keep their leg straight.

Be sure to turn that pumpkin into a treasure chest to collect their candy in. Every pirate looks for the buried treasure chest and won’t it be fun for your child to have their treasure chest full of delicious goodies.
