Placemat Tote Bags

Depending on the placemats you use, you can get really crazy with this tote bag. You can make a real one-of-a-kind tote bag if you rummage around the thrift shops for a couple really unique placemats. As long as they are the same size, they don't have to match. Make your tote bag as wild as you want!

What You’ll Need

2 placemats for each bag
fabric glue
ribbon, at least 2 inches wide, for handle
felt or foam sheet, rhinestones, fabric paint, fabric markers and other fabric-friendly art supplies
scissors

Instructions

1. With back sides together, put one placemat on top of the other. Glue three sides together using the fabric glue, making sure all the sides are aligned perfectly. Hold down under some weight until secure.
2. Cut two lengths of ribbon to make handles. Glue ends on the inside of each placemat. Let dry comletely.
3. Decorate the tote bags using fabric paint and fabric markers. Embellish by gluing on shapes cut from felt or foam sheets and rhinestones.
