Planting a Garden

Having children plant their own garden can be a very rewarding experience. It takes hard work but is a lot of fun. Your child will enjoy watching the little seeds they planted grow.

First you and your child will need to decide what to plant and where to plant it. Some fun ideas are flower, herb or vegetable gardens. They can either prepare an area in your yard, or try container gardening.

Let them do all the work. Show your kids what they will need to do, but allow them to do it. If they are preparing a piece of earth, let them pull the weeds, dig the holes, and plant the seeds. If your kids have decided to try container gardening, they can fill the pots with soil and place the seeds inside.

Now that they have planted their seeds, it is time to help them grow. You will need to show your child how to take care of them. Your kids will have to keep weeds out of an earth garden. They will need to know when to water their plants and how much.

Soon your children will watch their seeds blossom and grow. It will amaze them to see how a seed can become a tomato or a tulip. Your child will beam with pride knowing they did it themselves.
